When will I be charged?

You will be charged for your service at the time of your online booking.

What is the cancellation policy?

There is a $50 charge for cancellations up to 24 hours before your appointment. There are no fees for re-scheduling before the 24 hour window. Once within the 24 hour window, we are not able to re-schedule or issue any refunds for cancellation.

Why does my medical history matter?

Your medical history gives your therapist the information needed to tailor your treatment to your needs. Information about past injuries, medical conditions, and medications you may be taking is important to consider in your treatment. It is for your safety. If you have any concerns about whether massage is appropriate for you, please talk to your primary care physician.

How old do I have to be?

All clients must be 18 years of age at the time of treatment.

What if I don’t have the space in my home?

Please inquire about one of our on-site locations!

How do I prepare for my service?

Some things you can do to prepare for your service are:

  • Take a warm, relaxing shower
  • Play some ambient music
  • Set your favorite aromatherapy fragrance!

How should I dress for my service?

Please dress comfortably for your service. In treatment, you will be covered with a sheet, blanket, or towel, whichever you prefer. It is ok to be partially dressed or undressed.

What kind of massage is good for back pain?

Please talk with your therapist about the discomfort you’re experiencing to build a treatment that is right for you.

What can I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit, please allow time for your therapist to complete an intake with you. This may include a review of your medical history, injuries you have sustained, medications you may be on, and specific goals you may have for your treatment.

Should I shave?

In most circumstances, there is no need to shave.

Can you use my own products?

Yes, you can absolutely use your own products.

When should I avoid getting a massage?

Some situations where massage is contra-indicated are:

  • in your first trimester of pregnancy
  • if you have a fever
  • if you’re feeling generally unwell
  • in the event, there are open sores or broken skin
  • if you have a contagious skin condition
  • in the event of cardiovascular disease not successfully regulated by medication

** This is in no way a comprehensive list of all the situations where massage is contra-indicated. Please talk with your primary care physician if you have any questions or concerns. **

Will I be completely nude or covered with a towel? Will my massage therapist see me undress?

You will always be covered throughout your treatment with a sheet, blanket, or towel. Your therapist will exit the room for you to disrobe and get onto the table and again at the end of treatment for you get dressed again.

Is there talking during a session?

You may or may not like to talk with your therapist throughout your session. Please make your preference clear and confirm that it is ok with them. In other instances, your therapist may check in with you about how you enjoy the treatment and other questions relevant to your session.

Will it hurt?

Your treatment does not have to be painful! Please talk with your therapist about setting a depth of pressure that is appropriate for you.

How often should I get a massage, and how many sessions should I get?

Please discuss your concerns and goals with your therapist to create a treatment plan that is right for you!

Do you offer couples massages?

Yes, we do! Please contact us at info@thehandandbody.com to inquire about setting your appointment for your couples’ treatment.

Do you play music?

It is standard practice to play music during your treatment. Please talk with your therapist to set some music that is suitable for you, or to request that music not be played for your session.

What happens if I need to use the bathroom?

Should you need a break at any time during the treatment, please let your therapist know!

How much should I tip?

It is customary to pay your therapist a 20-25% gratuity for their work.

Can I request a specific gender for my treatment?

You may request a therapist with a specific gender for your treatment. We will do our best to accommodate your request.

What is therapeutic massage?

Therapeutic massage is a general term that describes any type of massage modality that helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and work on a specific problem—such as tennis elbow.
